AI at the Edge for Emergency Response: P2CODE Showcases at The AI Summit London

On 11–12 June 2025, the P2CODE project took the stage at The AI Summit London, part of the wider London Tech Week, to present an innovative demo in one of the world’s premier AI and emerging tech showcases. Held at the historic Tobacco Dock, the summit brought together researchers, innovators, and industry leaders exploring how artificial intelligence can transform society—from the cloud to the edge.
Representing P2CODE at Pod 7 in the Start-up & Investor Village, researchers Julio Diez Tomillo and Javier Saez-Perez of the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) demonstrated a compelling use case from the project’s Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) Application Area: Autonomous drone swarms for real-time search and rescue.
Drones That Think—and Protect
The live demonstration showcased how AI-powered drones can accelerate and secure search and rescue operations, particularly in remote or hard-to-reach environments. Using a combination of real-time human detection, swarm intelligence algorithms, and edge AI processing, these drones are designed to autonomously coordinate, detect, and report the presence of individuals who may be lost or in danger.
But speed and autonomy are only part of the story. In mission-critical scenarios such as disaster relief or emergency response, security is non-negotiable. That’s why the P2CODE demo also highlighted the platform’s built-in cybersecurity features, including software and device attestation. These mechanisms verify that both the hardware and software used in the drones have not been tampered with, making deployments trustworthy, verifiable, and resilient to cyber threats.
Swarm AI Meets Real-World Use Cases

As part of Use Case 2 of Application Area 4 (AA4), the drone swarm demo reflects the broader aims of P2CODE: to enable intelligent, secure, and programmable IoT-to-Cloud deployments for dynamic, decentralized infrastructures. The system leverages the power of edge computing to process data locally, reducing latency and improving responsiveness—critical features in time-sensitive operations like search and rescue.
Throughout the summit, the P2CODE team engaged with technologists, investors, and fellow innovators interested in how AI can be deployed responsibly and securely at the edge. The high level of interest reinforced the relevance of P2CODE’s mission at a time when AI is rapidly intersecting with real-world safety and public service applications.
