Red Hat at Waterford Tech Meetup: Taking Kubernetes to the Edge

Red Hat’s Clodagh Walsh and Ray Carroll presenting their P2CODE developments at the Waterford Tech Meetup.

On February 13, 2025, Red Hat participated in the Waterford Tech Meetup in Ireland, an exciting monthly gathering that brings together software engineers, computing students, lecturers, and tech enthusiasts from across the region. The event serves as a platform for sharing ideas, exploring emerging technologies, and fostering collaboration in the tech community.

Representing Red Hat, Clodagh Walsh and Ray Carroll took the stage to introduce the P2CODE project and discuss the cutting-edge cloud controller currently in development. Their talk, titled “Taking Kubernetes to the Edge,” sparked significant interest among attendees, particularly around the key enabling technologies—virtual kubelet and bootable containers.

The presentation provided valuable insights into how OpenShift can be extended to Edge computing environments, highlighting the benefits of lightweight, scalable deployments in resource-constrained settings. With edge computing playing an increasingly vital role in modern cloud infrastructure, the discussion resonated with developers keen on pushing Kubernetes beyond traditional data centers.

Red Hat was delighted to engage with the local Waterford tech ecosystem and contribute to the conversation. The enthusiasm and curiosity from attendees reaffirmed the importance of advancing cloud-native technologies for the future of computing.
