Call for Papers – SwarmAware 2025: Exploring Trustworthy, Decentralized Computing at the Intelligent Edge
As modern computing systems evolve, we are witnessing a shift toward large-scale, dynamic, and heterogeneous networks of devices and services operating across the IoT–edge–cloud continuum. These “swarms” of distributed components—ranging from low-power sensors to powerful edge servers—bring new possibilities for automation, intelligence, and real-time responsiveness. But they also introduce critical challenges for dependability, coordination, privacy, and security.
SwarmAware 2025, a workshop co-located with the 44th International Symposium on Reliable Distributed Systems (SRDS 2025) in Porto, Portugal (29 September-2 October 2025), will bring together researchers and practitioners to address these challenges. The workshop takes place on 29 September 2025 and is jointly supported by the Horizon Europe projects P2CODE, TaRDIS, and OASEES.
🗓 Submission Deadline: 11 July 2025

Rethinking Reliability at the Edge
SwarmAware 2025 focuses on how distributed systems can remain reliable, secure, and adaptive even as they become more decentralized and autonomous. As edge environments grow in scale and complexity, systems must handle intermittent connectivity, recover from faults, adapt to dynamic conditions, and support trustworthy AI-driven decision-making—all without relying on a central controller.
The workshop invites contributions on both foundational theory and practical implementation of such systems, including approaches to verification, coordination, AI integration, and resource management in swarm environments.
Topics of Interest
SwarmAware 2025 welcomes submissions related to, but not limited to:
- Decentralized coordination and consensus mechanisms
- Fault tolerance, self-healing, and recovery
- Edge resource management and real-time guarantees
- Federated and privacy-preserving AI
- Secure and resilient computing for cyber-physical systems
- Formal methods and verification for swarms
- Interoperability in heterogeneous environments
- Swarm decision support systems in high-stakes domains
- Edge AI in telecom, healthcare, and industrial automation
- Data engineering and compliance in decentralized AI pipelines
Submission Formats
SwarmAware 2025 supports a range of contributions, including:
- Full Research Papers (5–10 pages, excluding references): Peer-reviewed original research
- SwarmAware Agora (Open Floor Session):
– Talk Proposals, Demos & Prototypes: 1-page abstracts
– Posters: 1–2 page abstracts presenting ideas, early results, or project overviews
📝 Accepted full papers will be published as part of the SRDS 2025 proceedings. Abstracts for talks and posters will be presented at the workshop but not published in the formal proceedings.
