SUMMARY:ETSI Artificial Intelligence (AI) Conference: Status\, Implementation and Way Forward of AI Standardization
DESCRIPTION:The ETSI Artificial Intelligence (AI) Conference – Status\, Implementation and Way Forward of AI Standardization\, took place physically on 5-7 February 2024 in ETSI\, Sophia Antipolis\, France. \nArtificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML) technology has made major advancements in recent years and is becoming a key enabler for new disruptive features and applications in any digital product. \nThis face-to-face event offered attendees the unique opportunity to come together to exchange with experts\, network with peers\, visit the demos and posters around the subject of Machine Learning with a specific focus on Information and Communications Technology (ICT). \nAI/ML will fundamentally shift the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry\, as technologies such as Natural Language Processing\, Deep Learning\, and others will enhance the performance of communications\, applications\, content\, and digital commerce. \nArtificial Intelligence / Machine Learning are already part of the networks and services\, and are present across multiple sectors such as finance\, manufacturing\, medical\, telecommunications and transportation. AI Chatbots and AI voice assistants are widely deployed in society. Still this field is quickly evolving and the event will provide an opportunity for experts to have insights into the latest developments. \nEurope and other regions are drafting policy and legislation which will impact the deployment of artificial intelligence. In the context of the draft AI Act\, the EU puts forward objectives including: \n\n“ensure that AI systems placed on the Union market and used are safe and respect existing law on fundamental rights and Union values”;\n“facilitate the development of a single market for lawful\, safe and trustworthy AI applications and prevent market fragmentation”.\n\nAttendees learned about the latest status and had the opportunity to meet and discuss with experts in this field. \nThe event presented the regulations in the different regions of the world and provided the opportunity to get involved in standardization that will play an important role in the context of European and global regulation. The topics also addressed the corresponding new market access requirements\, conformity assessment\, etc. The event was also an opportunity for research organizations (academia and industrial research) to discuss new trends and features in the field of AI. \nThe conference presented available work in the domain of AI. In this context\, ETSI’s experts presented published and ongoing work on cybersecurity\, testing of AI\, trustworthy AI\, sustainable AI\, applications of AI for verticals and many more. \nDemonstrations and Posters on the latest advances in the field of AI/ML applied to ICT systems and applications complemented the conference programme.

SUMMARY:ETSI SNS4SNS
DESCRIPTION:In the dynamic landscape of communication technology\, the convergence of open source software\, standardization\, and cutting-edge research stands as a cornerstone for building resilient and sustainable networks. ETSI has pioneered an approach in establishing Software Development Groups\, alongside research-driven early-stage standardization in Industry Specification Groups\, all in close proximity to 3GPP. This event\, spanning a 1.5-day conference supplemented by 3 half-day Hackfests\, will explore the synergies between these complementary tracks\, shaping the future of communication infrastructure and services. \nWith a multidisciplinary approach\, this gathering will highlight the relationships between open source initiatives\, industry standards\, and academic research in driving innovation\, fostering interoperability\, and ensuring the long-term viability of communication networks. Through a series of engaging talks\, panel discussions\, and interactive workshops\, participants will delve into the collaborative frameworks essential for harnessing the collective strengths of these pillars. \nKey themes to be explored include: \n\nThe role of software and open source in accelerating the development and deployment of standardized communication technologies\, fostering agility and adaptability.\nThe importance of standardization efforts in establishing interoperable frameworks and ensuring global connectivity.\nThe impact of research advancements in pushing the boundaries of technological innovation\, driving forward-thinking solutions for future challenges.\nStrategies for fostering cross-pollination among industry\, academia\, and open source communities to facilitate knowledge exchange and collaboration.\nConcrete examples of collaboration\, achievements\, and challenges from ongoing initiatives.\n\nHackfest sessions will provide a hands-on platform for attendees to engage with our most recent Software Development Groups through real-world projects\, experiment with emerging technologies\, and contribute to ongoing initiatives\, underlining the practical applications of the principles discussed during the conference. \nP2CODE will be showcasing a poster titled Joint End-to-End Service and Resource Orchestration with Built-In Telemetry Services\, which will be presented by Alexandros Valantasis from Ubitech.
