SUMMARY:“Tackling the ever-increasing complexities of developing efficient heterogeneous swarm systems” - an EUCloudEdgeIoT Webinar
DESCRIPTION:As Europe creates a pathway for the understanding and development of the Cloud\, Edge and IoT Continuum and supporting research and innovation initiatives to develop applications across the continuum\, the paradigm also incorporates development of swarm and decentralized applications. In edge computing scenarios where there is a need for decentralized decision-making and coordination among edge devices\, swarm computing principles can be applied; such a decentralized and self-organizing concept and architecture fit particularly well hyper-distributed\, sovereignty-enabling\, heterogeneous data management challenges\, such as the ones found in European Data Spaces. Additionally\, edge devices can act as agents in a swarm\, collectively making decisions and adapting to changing conditions without relying on a central controller.  \n\n\n\nIn this session\, co-organised – under the EUCloudEdgeIoT initiative – by TaRDIS and Programming Platform for Intelligent Collaborative Deployments over Heterogeneous Edge-IoTEnvironments (formerly INCODE)\, will bring together the 5 Horizon Europe projects answering to the swarm computing call and are addressing the ever-increasing complexities of developing correct and performant heterogeneous swarm systems. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe project Programming Platform for Intelligent Collaborative Deployments over Heterogeneous Edge-IoTEnvironments enables an open and trusted cloud-native programming platform poised to tame the emerging dynamism of distributed and heterogeneous private edge infrastructures (seen as a combination of intelligent edge node and diverse types of smart IoT devices with processing capabilities over programmable data plane resources).  \n\n\n\nThe TaRDIS project addresses the ever-increasing complexities of developing correct and performant heterogeneous swarms by providing a novel programming model\, integrated development and analysis environment\, and corresponding runtime support. TaRDIS proposes a language-independent event-driven programming model that allows developers to specify the behaviour of different components in their distributed system as a collection of autonomous collaborative nodes.The OASEES project will deliver a European\, fully open-source\, decentralized\, and secure Swarm programmability framework for edge devices and leveraging various AI/ML accelerators (FPGAs\, SNNs\, Quantum) while supporting a privacy-preserving Object ID federation process.The ambition of OpenSwarm project is to enable novel\, future energy-aware swarms of collaborative smart nodes with wide range benefits for the environment\, industries\, and society. \n\n\n\nThe SMARTEDGE project aims to enable decentralised edge intelligence for smart IoT applications\, ensuring reliability\, security\, privacy\, and scalability. DESCRIPTION:The ETSI Artificial Intelligence (AI) Conference – Status\, Implementation and Way Forward of AI Standardization\, will take place face-to-face on 5-7 February 2024 in ETSI\, Sophia Antipolis\, France. \n\n\n\nArtificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML) technology has made major advancements in recent years and is becoming a key enabler for new disruptive features and applications in any digital product. \n\n\n\nThis face-to-face event will offer attendees the unique opportunity to come together to exchange with experts\, network with peers\, visit the demos and posters around the subject of Machine Learning with a specific focus on Information and Communications Technology (ICT). \n\n\n\nAI/ML will fundamentally shift the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry\, as technologies such as Natural Language Processing\, Deep Learning\, and others will enhance the performance of communications\, applications\, content\, and digital commerce. \n\n\n\nArtificial Intelligence / Machine Learning are already part of the networks and services\, and are present across multiple sectors such as finance\, manufacturing\, medical\, telecommunications and transportation. In the context of the draft AI Act\, the EU puts forward objectives including: \n\n\n\n\n“ensure that AI systems placed on the Union market and used are safe and respect existing law on fundamental rights and Union values”;\n\n\n\n“facilitate the development of a single market for lawful\, safe and trustworthy AI applications and prevent market fragmentation”.\n\n\n\n\nAttendees will learn about the latest status and will have the opportunity to meet and discuss with experts in this field. \n\n\n\nThe event will present the regulations in the different regions of the world and will provide the opportunity to get involved in standardization that will play an important role in the context of European and global regulation. It will also discuss corresponding new market access requirements\, conformity assessment\, etc. Additionally\, the event will be an opportunity for research organizations (academia and industrial research) to discuss new trends and features in the field of AI. \n\n\n\nThe conference will build on available work in the domain of AI. ETSI’s experts will present published and ongoing work on cybersecurity\, testing of AI\, trustworthy AI\, sustainable AI\, applications of AI for verticals and many more. \n\n\n\nDemonstrations and Posters on the latest advances in the field of AI/ML applied to ICT systems and applications will complement the conference programme: \n\n\n\n\nThe Programme Committee is currently calling for demonstrations and posters’ proposals.
